A selection of these reports is available in PostScript form at the Faculty's anonymous ftp-Abstract In this paper some discretization issues that arise in nite volume computations of turbulent ows in arbitrarily shaped domains are presented. Staggered grids are employed. Turbulence is modeled by the standard k-" model. Dis-cretizations are discussed of a general transport equation which are exact for uniform and linear ow elds on irregular grids. A new higher-order monotone upwind scheme for the approximation of turbulence convection is formulated. A number of test problems show the utility of the present numerical method.

A flux-coordinate independent field-aligned approach to plasma turbulence simulations
Introduction Plasma turbulence evolves from a considerable class of instabilities characterized by long parallel wavelengths, of the order of the system size, and short perpendicular wavelengths of the order of the ion gyro-radius. As a consequence, from the numerical viewpoint, one can conceive that much more efficient codes are made possible by a suitable choice of coordinates, that allow the...
متن کاملSimulations of transport in one dimension
Advection-dispersion equation is solved in numerically by using combinations of differential quadrature method (DQM) and various time integration techniques covering some explicit or implicit single and multi step methods. Two different initial boundary value problems modeling conservative and nonconservative transports of some substance represented by initial data are chosen as test problems. ...
متن کاملTurbulent Flow over Cars
In this paper the flow behaviour over a number of car bodies is studied. For this purpose the unsteady 2-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations have been applied. After averaging and nondimensionalizing the equations, the system of equations has been transformed from the Cartesian (x-y) coordinates to a body fitted generalized (-) coordinate. As the flow is incompressible, the density in the ...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Separation Bubble on Elliptic Cylinders Using Three-equation k-? Turbulence Model
Occurrence of laminar separation bubbles on solid walls of an elliptic cylinder has been simulated using a recently developed transitional model for boundary layer flows. Computational method is based on the solution of the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations and the eddy-viscosity concept. Transitional model tries to simulate streamwise fluctuations, induced by freestream turbulen...
متن کاملOn the sensitivity of the results to the numerical approximation of turbulence convective transport in a k-e turbulence model
A selection of these reports is available in PostScript form at the Faculty's anonymous ftp-Abstract In this paper a TVD scheme is applied to the computation of the turbulent connned co-ow jet in a 2D planar duct. This scheme is formally third-order accurate, free from numerical oscillations while keeping sharp gradients steep, and can be quite easily applied to incompressible turbulent ow comp...
